Today was a Fairytale

Last night was pretty chill here in flat 20A but it was really nice. I hung out with the roomies and we just talked and laid low after the busy day. I really like all the girls I am living with and we all have a lot in common! 3 of the other girls go to Stout with me. One goes to Indiana University, one goes to K-State, and the last goes to University of South Carolina. They are all super fun and we get a long great!

I went to bed around 2 am after skyping with my fam and woke up at 8am :) Then I got ready for today's walking adventure. And guess what!? It was actually sunny enough to sport my ray-bans today!!!

So here's a breakdown of how the day went. We took the tube (underground) to Green Park. It was a beautiful little park that led to Buckingham Palace. We followed the sidewalk to the gates of the palace and when I saw the real thing I was in awe. I have always heard of Buckingham Palace but have never actually seen a pictuer of it. It was awesome. The gates surrounding it all had gold trim around them and there was this huge fountain in the center of the courtyard in front of the palace. We learned the Queen was not in the office today because the certain flag was not raised.

We then proceeded down the road to another huge building. This one was the home of Prince Charles. I yelled to him "Hey Chuck, why don't you come out and play..." but obviously he didn't hear me :( Guarding his palace were some goofy looking soldiers...the ones that never smile or talk. Maybe it's because they are so bored or really cold but it was kind of annoying because I wanted to ask them questions about Chuck!

Yo DUDE! It's okay to smile :)

We then continued on our journey to a place called Picadilly Square and learned that it's called this because way way back the rich men would gather at these gentlemen's clubs and drank into the wee hours of the night. Then, when they were ready to go home they would get in their taxis and leave. But they would get bored on the ride and stop at the street corners where the "Dilly's" (prostitutes) would be. Then they would have their "pick" of which "dilly's" they wanted...hence the name Picadilly...haha.

We proceeded through the theatre district and past Leichester Square (pronounced Lester) to Convent Gardens. This is what they consider the mod place for young folk like me to gather. There were a lot of pubs, clubs, and cinemas around this area. We got lunch at a little pub and then shopped around for a bit. My roomie Kirsten and I went shopping for some gloves because our hands were freezing! I bought some nice brown leather ones for 16 pounds which is about $25.

Then we continued to Traflagar Square and I finally got to see Big Ben! I only saw it from a distance because I had to go back to the flat because I couldn't feel my toes but I will make it back so I can see it up close and personal.

When we got back to the flat myself, and my roomies Monica and Amy headed into Camden Town to hit up the grocery store called Sainsbury's. It was sooooo busy!!!! I swear every person in Islington decided to go shopping at the same time. I got some spinach, pasta, yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, and frozen veggies :) Then we took the bus back to the flat and I made myself some spinach tortilini and some broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. It was pretty good if I must say so myself...although I do miss my moms cooking...I also put my yogurt in the freezer because here in the UK frozen yogurt is a pretty new concept so I make my own! It tastes pretty good!

Tonight I am planning on maybe going to the gym for a bit and then cheering on my Green Bay Packers :) Gotta represent the green and gold!!!

  1. Love reading all this Hale. I also love that referred to Charles as Chuck!
