A Date With Tate and a Little Snogging

Today started out pretty great. Woke up bright and early at 7:30am and had some yummy breakfast-I am obsessed with those little pancake/crepe things and eat them everyday...I will miss them so much! Anyway, ate breakfast, went for a little baby run and did some yoga. Then it was time to head to the Tate Modern Museum for my class. I left a little early so I could stop and get some coffee and read my book alongside the Thames River beforehand. It was sunny and lovely out this afternoon so I wanted to take advantage! My walk to the museum was so lovely. I got to walk past St. Paul's Cathedral, over Millenium Bridge (saw Tower Bridge in the distance) and next to the Thames. I could walk this route every day to get to class...so relaxing and beautiful. Check it out for yourselves!
Walked past this on my way to class...lovely!

My classroom for the afternoon-Tate Modern

St. Paul's Cathedral

I was so engrossed into my book that I really did not want to go to class and was quite tempted to spend the rest of my afternoon outside the Tate reading, but my conscious made me act otherwise. At 2PM I met up with my class and we started our session. Our first stop was the exhibit from Ai Weiwei. It was called "Sunflower Seeds" and consisted of 100 million hand made/hand painted porcelain sunflower seed look-a-likes. The neat thing about this piece of art was that like humans, no two seeds were identical :) This is what it looked like...

The next piece we saw was by Jackson Pollock. It looked like a bunch of splatter paint on a canvas and apparently that's exactly what it was. Our professor said he stood over the canvas in his "Wranglers" and splatted paint...I really liked this piece and found it very "visually pleasing." Directly across from the Pollock piece was my most favorite work of art ever by my most favorite artist ever. It was titled "Waterlilies" by the one and only Claude Monet. I just love how his paintings look like blobs of paint up close, but when you back up you can see the image take shape. We also saw some paintings by Pablo Picasso. His are kind of wacky but they are still really really awesome. I am just amazed by some of the things that are considered to be art...there was this "splatter" painting exhibit and I swear my sister painted the exact same thing! She should have submitted it to a museum...she would have been a multi-millionaire :) Here are a few more pics from the Tate.

This was probably my favorite museum so far...I really like the contemporary art and it was a nice change from all the other stuff we have seen thus far.

After the museum it was time to head back to the flat and get ready to go out to a pub with Monica. We were going to go back to Salisbury but it was way too busy so we decided on the pub next door. It's funny because all the pubs here have the exact same menu...anyway I decided on a falafal burger with "chips" and some cider black. It was fantastic! We weren't quite satisfied after dinner so we walked around Leicester Square and Covent Garden for a little bit and came across SNOG. They were giving out free samples so we stepped inside and tried some...it tasted better this time than I remeber it tasting the first time so we decided we wanted some. I went with the SNOG special which included a classic size cup of frozen yoghurt with a souvineer spoon! SWEET! I got vanilla flavored yoghurt with brownie chunks, mango, and granold...it hit the spot but I must admit I was pretty full afterwords...Haley had a Little London food baby :)

I could probably work here if I lived in London full time

I am on the left, Mollo is on the right

So GOOD!

Monica got vanilla with kiwi, strawberry, and pomegranate-lots of antioxidents for her!

Tonight I am planning on skyping with my parentals, reading, catching up on GLEE and hitting the hay...I will also be hoping for a nice warm, sunny day tomorrow so I can spend my day off outside! Hope you're all enjoying the lovely weather stateside!

Cheers!
